Welcome  to The Danish Centre for Environmental Assessment!

The Danish Centre for Environmental Assessment at Aalborg University's Department of Planning is a non-profit organisation that, with a wide-ranging engagement in environmental assessment of plans, policies and programmes as well as Life Cycle Assessment, is working to ensure a democratic and sustainable development of society.

DCEA seeks influence through research, analyses and assessments, coaching, courses, continuing education and larger events. Read more about our research and other activities in What does DCEA do?

Environmental assessments easily risk being carried out under time pressure, too late in a decision making process, with only a single assessment tool and without adequate focus on the real goal, which should and must be to contribute to environmental improvements. DCEA is therefore established so as to contribute with integrated environmental assessments, where we draw on knowledge and methods across disciplines such as Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

We see our role as 'change agents', contributing to an increased use of environmental assessment tools early in the process from idea development to implementation and to improve the quality and effectiveness of environmental assessment in Denmark as well as internationally. DCEA has for this purpose and over several years established cooperations and partnerships in the public, private and civil society.
